But imagine if just two million of us changed one simple thing in our daily routine – by making the choice to re-use just once a week. While it may not sound like much, such a simple change would prevent a staggering 104,000,000 single-use cups from ending up in landfill each year. Unfortunately the same is also true in reverse. Since its birth in 1987, the modern single-use “paper” cup has contributed more than 3,000,000,000,000 pieces of trash to landfill; an eye-watering statistic by anyone's metric. With the average lifespan of a single-use item being less than 6 minutes – and recycling rates stuck below 2% – something had to give.
